India-based firm Studio 4000 goes for the unconventional with this particular project, constructing a house that undulates along the slope of a plateau. The Weekend House at Aalloa, on the banks of the Sabarmati river along Ahmendabad, India, rests along the natural contour of the terrain, allowing different ways to enjoy the view from each section of the house.
There are three main sections positioned along different coordinate axes — the house resting downward and along the contour of the terrain, the pool area that extends perpendicular to the house, and the water tower built at the angle formed by the two. All three sections envelop an open area from different elevation points, accenting the beauty of its surroundings.
Straight lines and right angles from the interior of the house, contrasting the sloping terrain with a structural aesthetic. Teakwood frames the large glass panels, allowing natural light inside the living room that serves as the biggest room of the house. A brick wall lies along the spine of the house, stabilizing the structure and supporting the parabolic roof that undulates along with the terrain.
Red brick remains the dominant aesthetic from the outside, accenting the interplay between the artificial and natural aspects the project aims to represent.
