Designed by Netherlands-based Studio Truly Truly, the Press Collection explores the sculptural potential of upholstery. A dialogue between strength and softness, the new Press Armchair and Press Bench are equally comfortable and functional as they are sculptural.
“For a long time we have been interested in sculpting upholstery with a simple gesture of pressure. In the Press pieces, we explore this theme with the involvement of wood, which lends a functional and aesthetic visual play. The softness of the upholstery is exaggerated by the brutality and rigidity of the timber. This juxtaposition is key to the drama of the collection.” – Joel Booy & Kate Booy
Studio Truly Truly was founded by Australian husband-and-wife designers Joel Booy and Kate Booy. For the duo, design is an avenue that satisfies their urge to “question and invigorate the way people use and perceive objects.”
The design juxtaposes pillowy upholstered forms against a solid timber framework, revealing tension between the soft and solid. The upholstery is generously proportioned and low-slung, balanced by precise joinery and solid oak elements that create a grounded visual weight.
Designed to invite pause, the Press Armchair features french seamed cushions and a generous seat depth. The Press Bench continues this thought with a central timber notch cradling the cushion and adding a playful point of emphasis.
