Opening its doors to the public in April 2019, the latest airport extension designed by Safdie Architects has integrated a surprising feature that will be a balm to your delayed flights, missed transits or four-hour layovers: the 130-foot high Rain Vortex, currently the world’s tallest indoor waterfall, which pummels down recycled rainwater from seven storeys high. Surrounding the magnificent waterfall are the lush gardens of Forest Valley, featuring over 2,500 trees and 100,000 shrubs that thrive on a multi-story terraced landscape. Located on the fifty floor, Canopy Park features attractions such as suspended nets, hedge and mirror mazes, playgrounds, a hanging bridge walk, and walking trails.
The presence of a green space — a remarkable one at that — offers travellers a meaningful way to spend their airport downtime other than shopping. It definitely leaves a good lasting impression of this tiny, bustling Asian city. Good on you, Singapore.
