The Modern Treehouse was designed by Sandall Norrie Architects as a modern take on the previous home that stood on the property, a Seattle plot of land with views of Lake Washington and Mt. Rainer.
The home is defined by its glass box outline, which cultivates an indoor/outdoor lifestyle with an open floor plan, a water-facing deck and floor-to-ceiling walls of glass. “Architecturally, a combination of glass and solid boxes were envisioned as the new modern residence,” the architecture studio says. “It’s a mix of boxes that slide toward or back from the lake, and push in and out from the street to create interior and exterior spaces while also allowing connections between the areas of the home.”
The architects worked closely with interior design studio Swivel Interiors, who curated a clean and contemporary aesthetic to reflect the client’s dynamic personalities and discerning taste. Modern, colourful furnishings and lighting fixtures pop out against the backdrop of white oak and warm grey concrete, completed by a selection of art including works by Alfred Harris, Ivan Carmona, Alden Maison and more.
