Located on the grounds of an existing family home in Kyiv, Ukraine is a cozy chalet designed as both a getaway for solitary meditations or a meeting place with close friends and family. Interior design studio Loft Buro helmed this stunning project, bringing Asian influences to a Western backdrop via an eclectic choice of materials and decorative elements.
The single-storey structure is defined by panoramic windows that frame views of the garden and the river beyond, the outdoor vista interrupted by a contemporary hanging fireplace that graces the living area, which is furnished with long, comfortable couches.
The living room moves into the dining area, composed of a long wooden table and plush red velvet chairs. Hanging overhead are three bespoke chandeliers in the classic Tiffany technique, their red and orange forms mimicking the motif of traditional Chinese lanterns.
Discreetly worked into the back wall of intricately detailed wooden panels with Oriental metal accents are two handlebars that open up to a kitchen area and bathroom. Underfoot is a flooring of Italian handmade terracotta tiles, immortalised with fingerprints of the artisans who made them.
Together with selected antiques from the owner’s travels, Loft Buro expertly curates a harmony of contrasting elements, colors and textures that define this charming chalet’s unique character. The project saw its completion in 2022.
