In the northernmost part of Sweden, the town Kiruna has something to offer that’s straight out of a fairytale: a golden egg. And while it won’t bring you riches, it will definitely open up your pores because it’s actually a sauna — the most eye-catching one we’ve seen so far.

Solar Egg is a project hatched by Swedish studio Bigert and Bergström in commemoration of Kiruna’s growing urban landscape. Sixty nine gold plated steel mirrors reflect the snowy landscape the egg stands on, making the five-meter high structure seem like a foreign object dropped from space. A staircase leads into the pine and aspen interiors with a wood-heated heart-shaped iron stove in the middle. The sauna was conceptualised as a transportable installation which means the Solar Egg will be making a tour of various postcard-perfect locations around Kiruna.

You can book a relaxing sauna session — for free! — here.
