Fougeron Architecture’s Suspension House is balanced between two Californian hills, leaving the creek and the waterfall that passes between the slopes undisturbed.
To reconnect the home with the environment, the restoration focused on an opening-up to the landscape. Floor-to-ceiling windows dominate the façades whenever possible, and a number of pivoting glass doors were fitted in to rejoin outdoor decks and exterior corridors.
Originally two storeys high, the studio embarked on a third level which they slightly rotated to 90 degrees, angling more favourably towards the forest. A pairing of dark-toned furnishings and accents with white walls create a calm, unfussy palette, drawing the eye of its habitants towards the trees and the hill’s rock face; a constant reminder of the home’s exceptional location.
