With its pitched roof merging with the light slate tones of the sky and its stone body blurring into the rocky beach that meets the water, this summerhouse in Denmark conceived by GinnerupArkitekter certainly roots itself harmoniously within its environment. Owners seeking solitude and isolation have found the perfect spot for the island home, which sits with the coastline on one side and surrounding meadows to the other. The overtly rustic appearance of the facade disguises a slick interior, designed to allow the dramatic surroundings to steal the scene. On top of hard stone floors, a beautifully crafted kitchen takes pride of place in the open plan living space, adding gorgeous texture and a clear level of craftsmanship to the neutral color palette that washes over the walls and ceiling.
The full height home is split into two areas, the living space taking over one end and bedrooms and bath at the other. The stone walls are interrupted in each corner of the house either with large windows or French doors, each offering views of the surroundings while contributing a lightness to the structure.
