The Milan-based French designer Nathalie Du Pasquier is a founding member of the Memphis Group (along with Ettore Sottsass) whose colorful, extravagant works defined a certain section of postmodern design. An icon of design, Du Pasquier’s solo work takes in textiles, clothing, jewellery, ceramics, and over the past two decades, primarily painting. Her latest work is a range of tiles produced in collaboration with Italian design firm, Mutina.
Echoing her paintings and the dramatic sense of color and shape from her Memphis days, Du Pasquier has created a balanced collection of tiles comprised of several different designs that can be arranged to create a random set of patterns, depending on the space. Entitled Mattonelle Margherita, the decorative series pairs geometric color blocked shapes with hand painted images, reflecting Du Pasquier’s daring aesthetic.
