Contemporary and minimalist, the Norwegian passport puts yours to shame

Norway, a country known for its clean and functional design aesthetics, has set the design bar even higher: they’ve given their passport a stunning makeover, driving home the point that they are, indeed, masters of class when it comes to minimalist design.

It was Oslo-based multidisciplinary studio Neue who won the bid to design Norway’s new passports, and the result is, unsurprisingly, a rousing success. Coming in red, white and turquoise, the documents feature the famous fjords of the dramatic Norwegian landscape which, when scanned under a UV light, makes green and purple Northern Lights appear.

The jury praised Neue for incorporating Norwegian identity, culture, and relevance into their design. Here’s hoping that other countries take the cue from Norway – my passport is suddenly looking drab and shabby!
