In these movement-restricted times, we find ourselves daydreaming about holiday getaways that will take us far away from civilisation… and this holiday house in Sifnos by A_2_Architects is just the right home to fuel our wanderlust. Overlooking the Agios Ioannis valley and the Aegean Sea from its hillside perch, the home bears the simple architectural elements of Greek seaside homes: white-washed cubic volumes, walls from quarried stone, and wood-framed windows.

The dwelling is laid out in a series of big and small volumes, interconnected by pathways, terraces, courtyards and pergolas.  Bedrooms are located at the lower level and the living area on the upper plateau for panoramic views of the sea, distinctly separating the private and public rhythms of its dwellers.

Mirroring the minimalist exteriors, the inside of the home features neutral white-washed walls and cement floors, as well as marble for the bathroom fixtures and kitchen countertops. Furniture from natural oak blend with the more modern design elements that decorate the home, creating a dwelling that is both traditional and contemporary.

Visit the studio’s website and Instagram. More lovely Greek homes here, including a house elevated at 6° and one with a subterranean stone volume.
