Built for a bachelor client fond of travel and modern architecture, the Concrete House in Goiania, Brazil was inspired by a residence featured in a science fiction film which the client liked. Costaveras Arquitetos, a Brazilian architecture practice, designed a trio of intertwining voluminous cubes, yielding an atypical sculptural form made up of numerous patios, pergolas and lounge areas.
This being a house for entertaining, the studio designed the ground floor’s social spaces – kitchen, living room, dining area, home theatre and wine cellar – to open up fully to the exteriors, while the upper floor bedrooms look out over the property’s manicured lawn. The material palette of concrete, rough stone and steel are softened by the presence of wooden slats and glass, a unique and harmonious composition which mimics its natural surroundings.
