The Slope House cuts a striking figure against the mountainous landscapes of Wonju, South Korea. Designed by Studio EON, this residential home is distinguished by a dramatically sloping roof, which shelters three compact volumes and generates several canopies, eaves, courtyards and balconies where the walls and roof connect.
Its atypical form influences the spatial conditions of the interiors, its slanted ceilings turning the rooms into homier, more intimate volumes. Light constantly filters in from the south-facing windows. White walls and light-colored wood are used throughout the home, a stark contrast to its exterior’s material palette of zinc panels, brick and corten steel. Finally, an intimately-sized terrace, accessed from both the interior and an exterior spiral staircase, offers an unobstructed view of surrounding mountains and greenery.
The South Korean architectural studio was established in 2018, taking on projects of varying scales and media, channeling their design sensibilities into architecture that delivers its meanings in a timeless manner. More on their website.
