Sitting next to a golf course in Zapopan, Mexico, Casa L&J enjoys the tranquility of its location with an architectural design and layout that balances the sprawling views and the privacy of its dwellers.
Guadalajara-based architect Alvaro Moragrega designed the home in an L-shaped scheme, with a main volume that looks out to the golf course on one side while shielding the private areas of the residence on the other. The volume is done entirely in steel and glass, with a pitched roof of flat black tiles. Spaces unfold along an elongated layout that starts from the common areas towards the private ones.
Warmed by the wooden panels of bespoke storage enclosures and featuring a piano and dining area, the spacious living area of Casa L&J is the heart of the home. A modern fireplace sits at one end of the room, and comfortable couches face the floor-to-ceiling glass facades that contemplate the golf course. From here, the house veers over to the other areas of the home: the laundry and pantry areas, the kitchen, a family room, the bedroom wing, and finally a double-height art studio. The bedroom wing sits 70cm below the exterior, an entire section constructed with rammed earth.
