In Among Us, Kirill Varnaev exposes the superheroes that walk the streets unrecognised, a thought that is endearing in its positivity, and necessary in today’s troubled times.
If Varnaev camouflages superheroes in everyday street scenes in one frame, he blatantly exposes them in the next by removing the outside noise. We find ourselves surprised to see them, which is the effect Varnaev was hoping for. “One usually perceives the Hero as someone distant from society, someone who captures rascals and rescues their victims,” he says. “But more often than not, this image is a caricature while real heroes are the ones who achieve little feats every single day. In total, these deeds have a great effect on our lives.”
