French artist Vasantha Yogananthan creates work that evokes sensitive, thoughtful meaning, mixing medias with his combination of photography and painting. His beautiful, soulful pieces are inspired by his own interpretation of The Ramayana, a famous epic with roots in Hindu mythology. Begun in 2009, his seven-book series A Myth of Two Souls is an epic labor of love and a worthy companion to its source inspiration.
Colorful illustration and collage lend a sense of fun to photographs staged and shot for their relation to the imagery found in The Ramayana. Working with two artists who work in the Madhubani style – one of the oldest art forms of the Indian state of Bihar – geometric patterns made with nibs, branches and fingers add a folky, yet graphic touch to the works.
