With her innate ability to connect, both visually and emotionally, to the raw and poignant beauty of the everyday, Emma Hardy produces imagery that unfailingly strikes a chord in her viewers. As a spectator to the natural scenes unfolding before her, the British photographer draws out the beauty from the mundane through her compositions which never seem forced or posed.
A former actress, Hardy’s theatrical background translates naturally in her photography. Her professional portfolio boasts an impressive client list including The New York Times, Airbnb, Wall Street Journal, Vogue and others; but when shooting off-client she delves into a more inquisitive reflection of the world around her. Shot mostly in film, her personal projects take on a more contemplative nature as she documents her family and friends, holidays and travels through an intimate regard. “I’m very touched by light, I find it moving, I love that light scores itself onto film. It’s simple really, such a beautiful invention: some celluloid and an exchange between photographer and subject, written in light,” she explains. “And then it’s for the viewer to find something, however small, that resonates.”
