In their latest project, Colorado Villa, studio noa* network of architecture presents a reinterpretation of the humble A-frame. Visualised for a client seeking a multi-generational home in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, the villa features the clear geometry of a single elongated A-frame intersected with the similar but smaller forms at certain points to create independent private villas for the client’s children and grandchildren.
Andreas Profanter, noa* partner and project leader, compares the space concept to a matryoshka system. “We have accommodated smaller, unexpected, but still very comfortable spaces within the larger volume,” he says.
A large communal living area becomes the space where the different volumes meet. Here, a large fireplace acts as the social point between the kitchen and living room. Large glass façades frame the surrounding landscape, blurring boundaries between the interior and exterior. Other communal areas include two studies that look out at an inner courtyard, which is set up with an outdoor barbecue area.
Nestled between the steeply pitched roofs are the children’s bedrooms, reimagined into an open-plan design. Play areas were created on the attic floor, directly accessible from the parents’ rooms.
