With its pale concrete façade and low profile, this luxury surf shack in Baja California Sur is in tune with its dusty, desert surroundings, providing a complimentary silhouette to the stunning natural landscape. Designed by RED Arquitectos, the home was built for a couple from Austin, Texas who wanted a base in the area from which to appreciate the lifestyle provided by the landscape, which takes in mountains and the sea. The home is wrapped in concrete – the region’s most accessible material – with local stones used in the production of corn flour used as shutters across the façade, the dark orange millstone columns linking the building with the culture and history of the area.
The floor plan of the home is arranged in a c-shape, with sleeping spaces at one end and an open living area that opens onto a patio for al fresco dining. While interior spaces are contained across one level, an exterior staircase leads up the aide of the building to a roof terrace where 360-degree views over the landscape await.
