New Zealand photographer Ho Hai Tran sets his sights on documenting the second lives of the iconic Pizza Hut buildings which infested the 70s, 80s and 90s in a project called Pizza Hunt. Their distinct trademark architecture, along with its Hawaiian-style pizza and garlic bread, became a childhood memory for many. Only a few of the the original huts still remain, now serving as grocery stores, pawnshops, liquor stores and funeral homes. Many have been refurbished, relocated and repurposed, but their original architecture still remains recognizable.
Traveling over 14,000 kilometers between Australia, where Tran is based, New Zealand and all the way to the US, he’s managed to photograph close to 100 huts. And he’s taking you along on this nostalgic pizza-filled journey via Pizza Hunt, a hardcover cloth-bound book which will highlight the chain restaurant’s architectural uniqueness. For many, this book will be a trip down memory lane.
