Oystein Sture Aspelund is a Norwegian photographer based in Oslo. Consistently searching for the relationship between culture and nature, his work explores the borderlands where civilisation – as most of us know it – turns into the wild wilderness. Merging art and documentary photography, his images retain a deep sense of narrative while sucking in viewers with their surface beauty.
In his series Hibernation VI, he uses landscape as a means to explore the subconscious, creating a stream of ‘frozen moments’ that create a sense of lurking on the border between fact and fiction. Frozen roads, solitary vehicles, and shadowy figures stand silhouetted against the darkness of a vacant, icy landscape. The Hibernation is an ongoing project and you can check out the rest of the series on his website.
