Like when your gran knitted you that jumper that made you blend in with her chintzy, floral wallpaper, photographer Joseph Ford’s project Knitted Camouflage shares a similar knack for disguise. Working in tandem with knit supremo Nina Dodd, London-based photographer Ford’s series of oddball stills are in possession of far more than initially meets the eye. You have to stare at the images for a few second before the sheer exacting intricacy of the photograph sinks in. The light, the model, the angles and the location all need to be at their best to do justice to the undoubted star of the show: the bespoke knitwear and its camouflage effect.
While playful and pleasingly off the cuff, the truth is that each image takes around half a day to shoot, with Dodd’s custom knits taking up to 40 hours to complete. Check out more of Joseph Ford’s work at josephford.net, and follow him on Instagram.
