A Tree Stands at the Heart of this Multigenerational Home in Brazil

As a multigenerational home, the RN Residence possesses all the makings of a comfortable dwelling for all its inhabitants, from its large interior and exterior footprint to the scenic landscapes of the property. Jacobsen Arquitetura developed the project around a leafy native tree of the Vinhatico species, incorporating it into the architecture by extending the wooden deck to wrap around its canopy.

Taking cues from the typical Brazilian farmhouse typology, Jacobsen Arquitetura took liberal use of granite, stone, and freijo wood as a palette, altogether reimagining them into a polished, contemporary exterior and interior. Through the entrance hall’s pivoting doors is a stone ‘garden’, a decorative element and a homage to the region’s iron ore production. Advancing further into the space reveals wide panoramas of nature, whether viewing it from the open-plan social areas or the privacy of the bedrooms.

The traditional porch spills into a generous veranda with a much-used gourmet space for family meals and gatherings. Quiet, contemplative moments are also spent in this outdoor area, particularly under the shade of the tree that overlooks the reservoir.

Together with the self-produced furniture collection of Jacobsen Arquitetura are choice pieces from designers including Paola Navone, Henrik Pedersen, and Paola Lenti, among others.
