Hanghar Casa Primitiva Spain

Deep in the Spanish Countryside, the Primitive House is a Study in Minimalist Design

Commissioned by a pair of artists to serve as an escape from the stresses of urban life, Casa Primitiva by studio Hanghar stands in relative seclusion on the periphery of a beautiful family-run vineyard. Surrounded by fields filled with vines, the design of the home was sketched to mimic the sense of freedom of the land, with a strong relationship to the surroundings a vital wish of the clients. A study in minimalism, in terms of the fabric of the structure rather than a specific nod to space and layout, the home was crafted from simple materials and finished in a white-washed render that strikes a significant impact against the land. With this pragmatic approach comes a simple beauty; the home as a gallery, studio, and retreat.

Rural, industrial, and agricultural elements influence the building itself, with a large volume with a pitched roof evoking thoughts of barns and outbuildings in the wild. Inside, the space is laid out as an artist’s studio, with exposed beams and concrete floor adding modest decoration to the white mortar. Naturally, light plays an important part here with large French doors leading onto a covered terrace and framing views of the vineyard.
