The Mirrored House of Doug Aitken Literally Reflects the Beauty of the Swiss Alps

An American artist and filmmaker, Doug Aitken is a master of mediums, working across an artistic spectrum from film to architectural installation with his work shown in galleries across the world including the Whitney in New York City, the Serpentine in London and the Georges Pompidou in Paris. His most recent project is his famous Mirage house, an ongoing architectural installation that has travelled from the Palm Springs desert to within a former state bank in Detroit and is currently residing in the Swiss Alps. Built in the style of a classic Californian ranch house, the buzz about this simple structure emanates from the mirrored shell that covers every surface, shimmering in the natural light, absorbing the scenery and reflecting its environment as a method of deviating from its own banal design.

Scheduled to stay in its alpine location until 2021, visitors to Gstaad, Switzerland can go view the house in person while others can follow the live stream here. See more from Doug Aitken here.
