Four Dwellings in A Single Property Propose a Change of Pace from City Life

The Avatar House by Vilnius-based studio Devyni Architektai is a series of four volumes spread across a serene plot of land surrounded by forests and lakes in Ozkiniai, Lithuania. Designed for a client wanting an escape and a change of pace from hectic city life, the homestead’s design, construction and aesthetic reflects a return to the basics. Their silhouettes are simple rectangular shapes topped with gabled roofs, built with a material palette of natural larch and stone in earthy tones that subtly and comfortably blend into the environment. The low-key approach continues throughout the interiors, which are fitted and furnished minimally yet tastefully, the high quality of materials apparent yet subdued.

Each volume plays a different part: the main house, a grandparents’ studio, an outdoor kitchen and a sauna. Roomy wooden patios wrap around the dwellings, a welcome addition of outdoor living space. They remain interconnected through a series of meandering footpaths, encouraging its residents to enjoy the property’s natural surroundings. As a whole, Avatar Home’s architecture is a thoughtful reminder to slow things down, and to live in the moment.
