BLA Design Group completed Feng House, a modern home transcending borders for a Chinese-Canadian family in British Columbia.
This corner lot residence is a quiet retreat that weaves together Eastern and Western aesthetics and function. The Pacific Northwest’s character is imprinted upon the home’s exterior and layout, from its striking gable form that shelters a spacious entry patio to its durable stained cedar and metal-clad envelope that can withstand the region’s rainy climate. Sliding glass doors open the social areas to the rear gardens, encouraging indoor and outdoor living.
Inside, traditional Chinese design elements take center stage. The entry area and main living room are adorned with slatted wood panel walls, offering division and visibility while allowing natural light to flow between spaces. A topographic sculpture of Hangzhou offers a sentimental nod to the family’s roots. Chinese furniture and decor gracefully embellish the interiors, bringing a sense of cultural elegance to the home.
Bridging cultures and eras, Feng House is a testament to the transformative power of intentional design, where the past meets the present, and cultures inspire each other to create something entirely new.
