If the elegant curves of this matching mirror and lamp pairing look familiar then that is because they have been modelled on the iconic Campari soda bottle – design memories from every Italian Riviera holiday – real or imagined. A nostalgic signifier of Italy’s alluring Dolce Vita era and a current favorite for any Instagram account looking to inject a little 1950’s style into a 2022 trip, the Campari bottle is an instantly recognizable figure. To celebrate the squat beauty of the drink and its vessel, Campari and Italian design brand Alessi teamed up to translate its shape into a small homeware range. Speaking on the project, which was revealed during the recent Italian Design Week, Alessi said, “The designer takes the unmistakable silhouette [of the bottle] to make it the foot of this table mirror, taking us back to the 20th century, through the linear stylisations typical of 1970s design.”
The ‘Cirifletto’ mirror and the ‘Senzabuio’ lamp were designed by Italian designer Giullio Laccetti, who took the 1930’s Fortunato Depero bottle as a guide to create the pieces. The mirror features a stainless-steel body finished in glossy red with dual Alessi and Campari branding. The lamp imitates the mirror with its glossy red body, extending into a large circular disc that emanates a soft glow that might just elicit memories of the Italian Riviera for some.
