Bainbridge House Reveals a High Level of Craft and a Commitment to Sustainability

With its sweeping glass facades and energy-saving design features, the Bainbridge House by FINNE Architects showcases a high level of craft and a commitment to sustainability.

Located on a secluded sanctuary in Washington State’s Bainbridge Island, the residence comprises two main volumes, with bedrooms in the west wing and the living pavilion to the east. Large sliding glass doors open up to a raised terrace overlooking the meadow.

The home’s exterior glass, cedar siding, and unique handmade Danish Kolumba brick envelope spacious interiors that are emphasized by a series of dense-patterned wood beams splashed across the ceilings, a design feature that adds a sense of movement to the space.

Inside, oak floors and grey walls are a muted backdrop to the tastefully curated interior finishes. Equipped with custom light suspensions, cast-glass breakfast counters, folded steel doors and undulating wood screens, the home is a display of modernism with a crafted approach.

With sustainability a high priority, Bainbridge House features deep roof overhangs, built-in shades, insulated glazing, operable clerestory windows, drought-tolerant landscaping, and water-conserving plumbing. Ever-evolving, the roof has been planned for the installation of future photo voltaic panels.
