A stunning glulam structure comes wrapped in a slatted shell of Corten steel to create a visually overwhelming environment for beer tasting. Created by Aron Himmelfarb as a ‘destination tavern’ for Hudson Valley’s Lasting Joy Brewery, the building is the ultimate tap room. The building adjoins the neighboring craft brewery and was designed to offer visitors – from far and wide – the opportunity to taste the locally produced drinks in an environment that matched the natural landscape for epic good looks.
With the exterior Corten steel shell presenting a rough, natural skin designed to welcome the weathering that will tarnish it over the coming years, the grand folly sits smartly within the landscape, with 30 acres of rolling meadow with dense woodland beyond. Inside the steel outer shell, the crisscrossing beams of the glulam structure provide a striking interior spectacle, the timber adding warmth and wow factor. Designed as an antidote to the dimly lit, industrial-style spaces that house the average tap room, Aron Himmelfarb created an inviting and inclusive space for Lasting Joy and its patrons.
