After their work on a penthouse for an art collector couple, Wheeler Kearns Architects add another lavish dwelling to their portfolio with Lakeview Penthouse. This duplex apartment smartly utilises the spaces of its J-shaped floor plan, angling each piece to profit from the 270-degree city views from its enviable perch.
Reinterpreting the traditional mansard building, the studio created curved walls that lean in slightly towards the room and away from the structural concrete columns, a visual strategy that lightens the window’s heavy appearance and generates a more intimate, cozy atmosphere.
A sculptural staircase made from oxidised steel and glass leads to the apartment’s private quarters, which mirror the same tasteful use of materials, color schemes and bespoke furniture of the social areas. Natural light streams into the space during the daytime, and at night the curved walls radiate with soft, warm glow via a lighting system designed in collaboration with Lux Populi. Sophisticated without the stuffiness, this dwelling is perfectly in line with Wheeler Kearns’ philosophy of creating spaces that embody purpose, energy and vision.
