Encased in black slatted screen façades, Villa Hovås by local Swedish studio Bornstein Lyckefors Arkitekter is a private two-storey home that cultivates a special relationship with its surroundings through extraordinary views and expressive play of volumes.
Set on a sloping terrain in Hovås, an affluent seaside suburb in Gothenburg, Sweden, the dwelling immediately draws the eye towards smashing water views via a fully-glazed façade oriented towards the sea. With social areas on both lower and upper levels, nature is a constant presence. In contrast to its rather imposing, closed-off exterior, Villa Hovås’ interiors are all about space and light, highlighted by a sophisticated material palette of concrete, white walls, light-colored wood and heavy wood-beamed ceilings.
With its sculpted form and openings that take advantage of natural light and the surrounding landscape, the studio note that this dwelling is “envisaged to create the experience of ‘living with the view’ while letting its inhabitants keep control of privacy in their daily life.’”
