Sacha Goldberger renders childhood superheroes vulnerable — not by exposing them to kryptonite, but by dressing them up in 17th century wardrobe. Titled Super Flemish, the series uses light, shadow and lighting techniques typically applied by the Flemish painters. The juxtaposition of American cultural icons and classical portraiture works out surprisingly well in the end: they are hilarious, sure, but we have to admit that it brings out something human in them.
“By the temporal disturbance they produce, these images allow us to discover, under the patina of time, an unexpected melancholy of those who are to be invincible,” says Goldberger. More of his work here.
