With a penchant for the surreal, bold and unexpected, fine art photographer and filmmaker Simon Hjortek crafts worlds that make us question everything we know — and we mean that in good way. His series Fotovurma is one such example: Here, objects defy gravity and float unperturbed in the air, while a woman captures the phenomenon on film. A mix of photography and digital manipulation, Hjortek’s beautiful and bizarre scenes are imbued with an Alice in Wonderland-esque vibe, taking us on an exciting adventure down the rabbit hole. “I focus on applying the impossibilities of dreams into common grounds with a photographic and often nostalgic touch,” he says of his work.
Hjortek, also known as Magnificent Beast, is currently based in Falun, Sweden, where he creates commissioned work for artists and brands. His work has been featured in various publications and photography exhibitions. More on his website and Instagram.
