Give Camille Ortoli paper, and she’ll build you a castle — or an impressive set of Haussmannien buildings that will unfailingly transport you to the charming streets of Paris. The Barcelona-born Paris-based artist’s fascination with a material so common — paper — has yielded magnificent results, leading to collaborations with fashion houses and established brands including Serge Lutens, Air France, Hotel Royal Madeleine, Hèrmes, Lancome or Ferragamo. Haussmannien is a personal project, an ode to her adopted country fashioned out of paper and complete with intricate details this architectural style is known for: mansard roofs, reliefs and holdings, intricately-detailed iron balconies.
The amount of detail in her work is astounding, a testament to Ortoli’s dedication to her craft. Lit from the inside, her creations take on a life of their own, enveloping us in the whimsical charm of childhood dollhouses and made-up stories.
