Resting on the crest of a peak, with a road to one side and freshly planted reserve land on the other, the Long House is a product of its environment, designed to blend with the flat, elongated nature of the land around it. With a surrounding expanse covered in fledgling shrubs and wildflowers that will eventually mature into a beautiful sea of foliage, the brand new build is intended to develop and grow along with its surroundings. Opting for a long, stretched elevation rather than the bulkier two-story design of neighboring buildings, the Long House will settle into the landscape as the plantation grows to cloak it with a coverage that will mature down the years.
Windows on both sides of the home stream light throughout the living spaces, allowing residents to chase the sun as it lights upon different sections throughout the day. The other benefit of glass walls are the views afforded of the reserve, whose growth will provide a story of its own as the plants rise and spread. Alongside a minimal use of concrete and steel, timber is the main material, from the exterior cladding to the shielding fence and interior trims.
