Bernardes Arquitetura’s Origami House is a gorgeous concrete and wood home designed and built for a couple in Brazil. With accommodating and entertaining family high on the client’s priorities, the studio created a roomy, practical single-storey house, with its spacious living and dining area stretching towards a balcony and lounge area, which leads to the swimming pool. The bedrooms and baths, which run perpendicular to the social areas, are protected behind heavy pivoting slabs of cumaru wood which act as brises-soleils.
The most distinguishing element of the Origami House is its materiality. The marriage of concrete and cumaru wood come together harmoniously to inspire an atmosphere that is brut yet homey, sparse yet familial. And as you can clearly see in the pictures below, gorgeous views of the natural surroundings can be enjoyed from any angle or spot in the home.
