When embarking on the adventurous build that would contain a new home for himself and his family along with the east coast outpost of his architectural studio, Omar Gandhi came up against a pleasant sticking point that shifted the project – that his business was growing too fast. This meant a change in the mechanics of the home, which would still be a dual-purpose work/live space but give the ground floor over to a smaller studio that would work on community initiatives, leaving a new HQ elsewhere to house the business. Once the bumps were overcome the journey began on the handsome multilevel building.
The entrance is found via a smart brick staircase that descends to both the entrances of the home and the office, merging with the brick podium that provides the base of the structure. The exterior wooden beams that appear weathered, contrasting with the mist in the images below, are matched by an interior that relies heavily on timber. White oak cladded walls and floors create a beautifully cocooned internal space with a warmth inspired by a large light well that complements the floor to ceiling windows that cover the rear of the build.
