Nike Dedicates its New 1 million square foot Serena Williams building to Design innovation

In terms of architectural feats, Nike’s latest addition to its sprawling campus in Beaverton, Oregon is a big one. Measuring over 1 million square feet, the building was commissioned to lead the way in the future of the company’s design and innovation projects. The legendary tennis player and Nike athlete Serena Williams received the honor of having her name mark the building as an overt symbol top celebrate her legacy. The mammoth building was designed by Portland-based Skylab Architecture with collaboration from Nike chairman, Mark Parker.

Beyond the sleek glass and metallic compositions of the facade, the building’s grand interiors are filled with research labs, an auditorium, workshops, and a mock mall, with nods to Williams’ story woven throughout its spaces. In keeping with the brand’s sustainability drive, the roof features 648 solar panels to contribute power to the building, while 20% of the materials used in construction were recycled.
