Out with the old, in with the New for this Family’s Upper East Side Apartment

Out with the old, in with the new. New York practice AMMOR Architecture was tasked to turn a classic 4000 square-foot Carnegie Hill apartment overlooking Park Avenue on the Upper East Side into a contemporary space that fits the dynamic lifestyle of a couple and their three small children.

The studio swapped the traditional trim and moldings for modern, simple straight-edged profiles. Overhead ceiling crowns were removed, and the old dark wood flooring was replaced with large-sized white oak planks in the common areas and plush white carpeting in the bedrooms. This light-hued color palette is dramatically highlighted by dark-coloured accent walls.

It was the small, contemporary touches that lent the biggest impact to the overall aesthetic the studio was going for, including single-and double-pocket doors, bespoke counters and benches in the kitchen’s breakfast area, curated wallpaper and backlit vanities in the powder room, and modern millwork in the children’s room. Harmoniously tying the entire look together is the tasteful display of objects and artwork that spell out comfortably personal, yet elegant at the same time. A perfect, modern nest for a family of five in the most exciting city in the world.

New York-based AMMOR has worked with residential, office and commercial projects, approaching each one with a uniquely creative response, a sensitivity to a client’s vision and a commitment to detail. Follow them on Instagram.
