Between Lego trainers and Lego sculpture, Lego movies and Lego Land, the Danish building blocks certainly do get around. In fact, there aren’t many areas of pop culture untouched by the amiable brand’s inclusive outlook on things. Now it’s the turn of Art History to get the treatment, thanks to the work of artist Stefano Bolcato.
Taking classic masterpieces from the centuries, Bolcato has reimagined the paintings with Lego people swapped in for the subjects and muses of the originals. The result? A quirky, amusing series that justifies being made into a real life set so that everyone can experience the joy of art history – Lego style. From Warhol to Da Vinci, Bolcato’s oil on canvas series entitled People was inspired as a way of transferring his childhood love of Lego into his adulthood.
