An expression of nostalgia and youthful awakening, the new JW Anderson collection is a refined take on leisure and ‘lad-wear’, with a certain level of gender fluidity in the pieces. The new collection is presented in collaboration with fashion photographer Juergen Teller, whose direction points the images down a memory lane of school photos and awkward portraiture.
Fluffy tank tops, strawberry knits, all-over prints, and bomber jackets make up part of the ready-to-wear offering, shot in the deliberately kitsch environment of a suburban home. Speaking on the SS 22 collection, which was delivered as a ‘show in a box’ complete with cardboard framed images and tissue paper for those lucky enough to receive one, JW Anderson says, “I liked this idea of creating something which felt a bit like going back to school. When I was younger, we used to get our pictures taken at school and you’d get these packs of photos and frames. I liked that concept of each of the photos being able to stand on their own. You could even put it on your mantelpiece.” See more of his work on the website.
