Opening last year to positive reviews encouraged by its attention to detail and excellent use of space, JFK Airport’s TWA Hotel has recently consolidated its hospitality offerings with a new retro cocktail bar. Adding to the time capsule sense of a place suspended in the past golden age of flying, TWA have renovated an old airliner (who goes by the name Connie), turning it into a glamorous cocktail bar complete with flight deck and pilot’s seat still intact.
Converted from a 1958 Lockheed Constellation L-1649A plane, the new bar celebrates the original features of the vessel, keeping doors, windows, seatbelts, curtains, and some of the seats. The signature TWA Hotel red carpet extends throughout the bar/plane’s aisle, while new tables were designed by the hotel’s architect, Eero Sarinen. Part bar, part museum, there’s space to wander the length of the cabin – with martini in hand, naturally. Make your reservations here.
