Spoiled by technology, we’re so used to things going our way with a push of a button or by hollering Alexa or Siri. Addressing this concern is the Hilo Speaker, a beautifully crafted speaker by Colombian contemporary design practice Moak Studio.
Hilo encourages user-object interaction through its manual volume dial: raising and lowering the knob on the speaker lets us control the music’s volume.
“Hilo makes us use objects again with our hands, to feel them, to understand them and – why not? – to question and show us different ways to interact with them,” the studio says. At the moment, this minimalist handcrafted speaker is still a prototype. Crossing our fingers it gets produced soon — this is one object we wouldn’t mind getting up from the couch for.
