Google and Monotype’s ‘Noto’ font works for all written language – and looks pretty good too

Since Google conquered the internet, it seems like a natural progression for the company to develop an all-encompassing font for its web engine that makes its arrival in different markets, with different languages and alphabets, as smooth and intuitive as possible. Developed in tandem with Monotype over the past five years, it now has that font. The aim of the Google Noto Project was to collaborate with Monotype on a new typeface family that encompassed as many languages as possible, paying attention to little known or little used dialects. The finished project covers 800 languages and 100 different scripts and also utilizes emojis, symbols and musical symbols.

A marriage between type and technology, the results were created with the help of hundreds of linguists, designers and cultural experts across the world. The Noto font is available for free download now.
