The saying ‘One man’s trash is another man’s treasure’ rings true in the works of Angelo Bramanti, whose found sculptures consist of washed-up debris found in the coasts of eastern Sicily. For several years now, washed-up trash ranging from steel drum covers to discarded tires have graced his Instagram account, the recurring theme gaining enough momentum and significance to turn itself into a proper photography series titled Alone. Propped up on rocks or sand with the picturesque blue of the sea and surf behind them, the objects are begging to be revered as works of art — and against all odds, this is what they actually become. Placed on a pedestal, Bramanti turns trash into art that urges us to reflect on the meaning of beauty. The series also touches on the environment and important global problems we’re currently facing.
