The project Scraping the Surface by artist Julia Fletcher is an introspective look into the obscure questions people ask about their own lives and existence.

By blurring her subject’s faces, Fletcher establishes their identities by their questions, which she stitches on the photograph itself. “Some are references to life overall while others vaguely address their own problems they face and have yet to solve,” the artist explains. “By embroidering their questions into the actual photograph, I’ve created a sense of permanence and a variety of lines that seem to be never-ending, much like our biggest fears and concerning thoughts.”
