Technically speaking, Casa Bula could be called a bunker, or even a cave dwelling — if those terms could actually apply to this bright, airy and totally relaxing dwelling (They don’t.) Located in Ticino, Switzerland, this Bearth & Deplazes-designed home is built within a hill, a move the architects took to maximise its location’s floor space while minimizing its impact on the landscape it’s built on.
The two-level structure’s main level has an open-plan living area, which is made to feel more expansive than it is by its direct connection to a concrete terrace offering magnificent views of the surrounding mountains. A staircase leads to the master suites, bath and second bedroom. Concrete is the main material used throughout, chosen for its strength and insulation purposes. Its interiors are minimally yet tastefully decorated, rounding up the charm and character of this unforgettable accommodation.
