Bring back these funky double-faced swim caps of the late 50’s

Here’s a kooky vintage fashion trend that was definitely ahead of its time, emoji-wise! In 1959, Long Island housewife Betty Geib designed faces behind her children’s swim caps to keep them amused. Turns out that the success of the two-faced caps didn’t stop at her local church bazaar…

Geib turned her smiley swim caps into a proper business (named Betty Darling), and they became a must-have accessory in the late 50s.

Photographer Ralph Crane captured these lighthearted photos for a fashion feature in LIFE magazine titled “Two-faced Swimmers in Crazy Caps”. If there’s one vintage that should be resurrected, this is it!
