On a narrow beachfront strip along Tulum, Mexico’s Riviera Maya stands the stunning Bautista House, a breezy home with views of sand dunes and the sea beyond. Designed by Mexican architecture studio Productora, Bautista House stands out for its cast concrete exteriors, tinted in an organic blue color. This surprising element changes and reacts to sun exposure, resulting in tones of ocean blue to sunset pink as time passes.
The home has three levels, all connected by a concrete spiral staircase. From the below ground level where the parking and utility spaces are located, one can climb the staircase to the first floor, where all the living, dining and private spaces are arranged across an L-shaped space. The airy, spacious atmosphere is the result of wooden floor-to-ceiling doors that completely opens up the living room to join the large terraces. An outdoor ramp leads to a turret, added as “a formal element that anchors the ensemble into place and doubles as a flexible space for work and meditation.”
The best views, though, can be had from the rooftop level: a large terrace with a concrete pool and an outdoor dining room. From this vantage point, one gets a 360º view of the Caribbean Sea, the sand dunes, the jungle and the lagoon while lounging, we jealously imagine, in complete summer attire, cocktails in hand. Heaven on earth does exist…
